CREAF is seeking a qualifield technical to work on the Severo Ochoa ECO-RESILENCE 360° (“Transformative Ecology to Manage the Future of Ecosystems and Human Wellbeing”) with ref. CEX2023-001340-S and DYNAFUN project (“Vegetation dynamics in the Iberian landscapes from a structural and a functional perspective: assessing early warning signals of ecosystem disturbance”) with ref. PID2023-152719OB-C22, funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades and Agencia Estatal de Investigación. financed Spanish Government.

A full-time contract is offered (37.5 hours per week), with a starting date of July 1st, 2026. The position will last at least until 31/03/2028, with the possibility of extension if required and if the budget allows. The offered salary is €30.334,66 gross per year (corresponding to category T3B).

MAIN FUNCTIONS:

The research technician will support CREAF research team for the ECO-RESILENCE 360 “Transformative Ecology to Manage the Future of Ecosystems and Human Wellbeing” project, and for the DYNAFUN “Vegetation dynamics in the Iberian landscapes from a structural and a functional perspective: assessing early warning signals of ecosystem disturbance”.

In particular for these specific tasks:

  • Collecting, processing and generating remote sensing products.

  • Updates, control and execution of remote sensing and GIS batch processing and R statistical scripts.

  • Comparing the predictions obtained from process-based forest models with remote sensing products from different sources (mainly Copernicus and USGS).

  • Integrating remote sensing products within process-based forest modeling workflows.

  • Support to the processing (e.g., filtering) of climate time series and remote sensing (e.g., products composite) in the DynaFun tasks.

  • Active participation in writing progress reports, deliverables and scientific publications.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Physics or equivalent; Geodesy, Cartography, Forest, Agricultural Engineer or equivalent.

  • Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and GIS, Geodesy, Cartography, Ecology or equivalent.

  • Statistical analysis and programming skills using R language.

  • Advanced Remote Sensing and GIS skills.

  • Intermediate / advanced level of oral and written English.

  • Experience in batch and script processing.

ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS:

  • Remote sensing and GIS applications for vegetation monitoring and terrestrial water ecosystems.

  • Expertise in analysis of long times series of Remote Sensing vegetation indices.

  • Advanced user of MiraMon software.

  • Expertise in forest water balance modelling (e.g., MEDFATE) or hydrological modeling (e.g., SWAT).

  • Expertise in Open Science (FAIR principles).

  • Contributions to publications or conferences in the mentioned topics (added value as main author /speaker).

  • Candidates with a recognised disability equal to or greater than 33% will be considered and prioritised, provided the disability is compatible wiht proper job performance.

SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA:

  1. Admission of candidates: Applicants must apply for the offer and attach the requested documentation, a curriculum vitae in English and a cover letter (maximum 500 words), until June 7th, 2026.   2. Pre-selection: assessment of compliance with the minimum requirements of the job offer.

  3. Selection: evaluation of the pre-selected candidates through scoring based on objective criteria, interviews with a shortlist of candidates, and a proposed exercise.

  4. Final decision: if a suitable candidate is identified, they will be formally informed of their selection, and all other participants in the selection process will be notified by email.
