CREAF is seeking to appoint one technician to work on the DRASTIC project (Tree water use and DRought responses: the roles of Allometry, water Storage and Transport under climate Change); with ref. PID2022-137270NB-I00, financed by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (MICIU).
A full-time contract is offered (37,5h per week), and likely to start at the beginning of May 2025 or soon thereafter and will last at least for 20 months that could be extended up to mid-year more if budget allows. The offered salary is €32,037.61 gross per year (corresponding to category T3A).
TASKS:
- Establish a field protocol to monitor water pools and fluxes as well as sample tree hydraulic traits inside an experimental setup in Collserola regional Park.
- Install and maintain a network of environmental and physiological sensors, download data and conduct basic quality control for the same setup of sensors.
- Run periodic measurement campaigns for the sampling of functional traits (including water relations traits) and other physiological variables inside the same experimental site.
- Establish a field throughfall exclusion experiment to monitor tree responses following complete rainfall exclusion.
- Travel to the local field site, carry out the sampling protocols and measure the corresponding variables in the field.
- Coordinate with the project supervisors, PhD students and postdocs of the project regarding the handling of the field samples for further laboratory analyses.
- Help conduct the required laboratory measurements as mentioned in the previous points.
- Provide general support to other staff, as required.
- Contribute to managing the databases resulting from the previous points.
- Assist in data analysis whenever required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Biology, Forest Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent.
- Expertise in using the basic analytical tools employed in ecology (data management, statistics).
- Knowledge of English.
- Willingness to travel and enthusiasm for fieldwork in ecology.
- Experience in carrying out field protocols involving sampling of plants under field conditions and/or
- Expertise in taking eco-physiological measurements and using the corresponding scientific equipment under laboratory conditions.
ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS:
- MSc or PhD related with the tasks mentioned above (water use and drought responses of plants).
- Research experience in the field of plant drought responses.
- Knowledge of another language (beside Spanish, Catalan if the case, and English).
- Candidates with a certified disability of 33% or more will be prioritized, provided the disability is compatible with the position's responsibilities.
