CREAF is seeking a research technician to mostly work on DynaFun project (“Vegetation dynamics in the Iberian landscapes from a structural and a functional perspective: assessing early warning signals of ecosystem disturbance”), with ref. funded by Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades and Agencia Estatal de Investigación and financed by the Spanish Government and with few complementary tasks in TAECliTe project (“Teledetecció i Anàlisi Espacial per al Clima i el Territori”), with ref. 39885 and funded by FUNDACIÓ EMYS.

DynaFun project: DynaFun aims to improve the understanding and monitoring of changes in the vegetation of the Iberian Peninsula through two different approaches: the exploration of structural changes in land use and land cover types (LULC) and the exploration of functional changes based on ecosystem attributes (EFA) and functional types (EFT).

TAECliTe project: TAECliTe researches in methods and terrestrial Ecology applications of Remote Sensing for understanding the spatiotemporal patterns of climate change in heterogenous landscapes.

A full-time contract is offered (37.5 hours per week) ) with planned incorporation in October 2026 will last until September 2027. The salary offered is 26.542.83€ gross per year (corresponding to category T4A).

MAIN FUNCTIONS

The research technician will support CREAF research team for the DynaFun project “Vegetation dynamics in the Iberian landscapes from a structural and a functional perspective: assessing early warning signals of ecosystem disturbance”, for these specific tasks:

  • Collecting, processing and generating remote sensing (RS) products.

  • Collecting, filtering, processing climate time series.

  • Generating time series of spatialized drought indices.

  • Correlation analysis of the land use land cover with hydroclimate variables and ecosystem indicators from RS

  • Updates, control and execution of remote sensing and GIS batch processing and R statistical scripts.

  • Active participation in writing progress reports, deliverables and scientific publications.

And totally similar tasks related to TAECLITE project.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Geography, Physics or equivalent; Geodesy, Cartography, Forest, Agricultural Engineer or equivalent.

  • Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and GIS, Cartography, Environmental Biology, Ecology or equivalents.

  • Statistical analysis and programming skills using R language.

  • Advanced Remote Sensing and GIS skills.

  • Intermediate / advanced level of oral and written English.

  • Experience in batch and script processing.

ASESSABLE CONDITIONS

  • Remote sensing and GIS applications for vegetation monitoring and terrestrial water ecosystems.

  • Expertise in processing and analysis of long times series of Remote Sensing products.

  • Expertise in processing and analysis of long times series of climate variables, in particular drought indices.

  • Advanced user of MiraMon software.

  • Contributions to publications or conferences in the topics mentioned (added value as main author /speaker).

  • Candidates with a certified disability of 33% or more will be prioritized, provided the disability is compatible with the position's responsibilities.

SELECTION PROCES AND CRITERIA

  2. Pre-selection: Assessment of compliance with the minimum requirements of the job offer.

  4. Final decision: If a suitable candidate is identified, they will be formally notified of the selection, and all other participants in the process will be informed by email.
